P1 – P6 & PSLE English

English Tuition — Build Confident Communicators

Most students can read English. Far fewer can write it well, infer between the lines, or speak without hesitation. Edugate's diagnostic-first English programme targets the exact gaps holding your child back — from composition confidence to PSLE Paper 2 mastery.

Diagnostic-first English — because every gap is different

Good English teaching doesn't start with a textbook — it starts with understanding exactly what the student already knows and what they don't. Before any child joins Edugate's English programme, we run a free diagnostic that maps their comprehension level, writing ability, grammar accuracy, and oral confidence.

From there, they're placed in the right level group and follow a structured curriculum aligned to the MOE English Language syllabus. Lower Primary students build strong foundations. Upper Primary students sharpen PSLE skills — both papers, both components.

Small classes (max 12) mean your child gets writing feedback, not just a red-pen grade. Oral practice is done in-class, not assigned as homework nobody does.

A 4-step framework — Diagnose, Target, Write, Prove

Every student starts with an assessment. Then we follow a structured progression that builds from foundational skills through to PSLE-ready performance — no skipped stages, no wasted lessons.

1
Diagnose
Free diagnostic identifies exact gaps across comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and oral. Your child is placed correctly — not by school grade alone.
2
Concept-First
Grammar rules, comprehension strategies, writing frameworks and oral techniques are taught explicitly — not discovered by accident through endless practice papers.
3
Apply & Write
Students apply skills immediately — in-class writing, model composition analysis, oral practice, and targeted comprehension exercises with tutor feedback on every piece.
4
Progress Checks
Regular assessments track improvement in each skill area. Parents receive milestone updates so you can see exactly what's improved — and what's next on the plan.

What makes our English programme different

🎯
Diagnostic Assessment Identifies Exact English Gaps
We don't guess what your child needs. The free diagnostic maps their specific weaknesses — whether it's inference comprehension, composition planning, grammar tenses, or oral hesitation — and we teach to those gaps.
📐
Structured Writing Frameworks
Composition no longer means staring at a blank page. We teach repeatable writing frameworks — planning grids, opening hooks, paragraph structures, and PSLE situational writing formats — that students apply immediately.
📚
Model Compositions Library
Students study high-scoring model compositions by topic, annotated to show exactly why they work — vocabulary choices, sentence variety, structural decisions. Learning from exemplars builds instinct, not just imitation.
👥
Small Classes — Real Feedback
With a maximum of 12 students per class, every composition gets marked with comments, not just a score. Oral practice is genuinely spoken, not skipped. Every student gets tutor attention, every lesson.
📊
Regular Parent Progress Updates
Parents are kept informed at key milestones — what skills have been covered, where improvement is visible, and what the focus is for the coming weeks. No mystery about where your child stands.

Questions parents ask us

Our English tuition programme covers Primary 1 to Primary 6 (ages 6–12), including dedicated PSLE preparation for P5 and P6. We start with a free diagnostic assessment to place your child in the right level group — we don't go by school grade alone, because two P4 students can have very different English abilities.
Our English tuition classes are priced in the $260–$300 per month range (4 sessions of 60 minutes each), depending on level. P5–P6 PSLE preparation classes tend to be at the higher end. Contact us for the current fee schedule and available slots at your preferred centre.
Yes — composition writing is one of the most common struggles we see, and one of our core strengths. We teach structured writing frameworks that break composition into manageable steps: planning, sequencing, vocabulary selection, and editing. Students also study annotated model compositions so they understand what high-scoring writing actually looks like.
For P5 and P6, we cover the full PSLE English scope: Paper 1 (situational writing — emails, speeches, reports — and continuous writing), Paper 2 (comprehension passages, grammar cloze, vocabulary cloze, synthesis and transformation), PSLE Oral Examination (reading aloud and stimulus-based conversation), and Listening Comprehension strategies. We do timed practice under exam-like conditions as we approach SA2 and PSLE.
Every English tuition class is capped at a maximum of 12 students. This is especially important for English — composition writing needs genuine feedback, not just a tick-and-cross, and oral practice requires a tutor who can actually hear your child speak and coach them in class.
Yes. Our programme is aligned to the MOE English Language syllabus across all primary levels. The skills and question types we cover — comprehension, composition, grammar, oral, listening — map directly to what students encounter in school tests, SA1, SA2, and PSLE. We reinforce and extend what's taught in school, not replace it.
